Cataloguing of the Cultural Heritage Service of the Emilia-Romagna Region

Carlo Zauli General Archive

The cataloguing of the Cultural Heritage Sector of the Emilia-Romagna Region (PatER) not only allows a more complete knowledge of the specific works, but also enables the assets of the different collections to be compared, offering many possibilities for research and study.

This is why the Carlo Zauli Museum, thanks to the intervention of the Cultural Heritage Sector of the Emilia-Romagna Region, is continuing its archiving programme, which began last year with the artist's works around the world, and is now continuing with the completion of the cataloguing of public works present in the Emilia-Romagna region and the cataloguing of works in the museum's own collection.

This work will make it possible to identify, enhance and locate all of Carlo Zauli's works, making them navigable and consultable by anyone accessing the web or consulting the printed catalogue. The cataloguing project was realised with the contribution of the Emilia-Romagna Region - Cultural Heritage Sector, within the framework of the 2023 Museum Plan (L.R. 18/2000).

Knowledge comes through repeated and direct frequentation and observation of the work and sometimes of its author.

Carlo Zauli General Archive

The archiving project on Carlo Zauli started from the desire to reunite the artist's entire oeuvre and to create a vast catalogue that would allow careful and repeated observation of his work over time, a necessary condition for a work of re-reading and re-examination.

Carlo Zauli has worked in many fields, from sculpture to design. His production ranges from the vases of the early 1950s to ceramic and bronze sculptures, from paintings to graphics, from design objects to industrial production, and their cataloguing allows us to delineate the figure of the artist at 360 degrees.

In addition, the archiving of documents such as notebooks, sketches, work notes, notebooks on the study of the composition of the glazes, and writings constitute valuable material for understanding the generative processes prior to the creation of the works.
