CERAMICS COURSES AT THE CARLO ZAULI MUSEUM

In the unique location between history and contemporaneity of the museum located in Faenza, a city with a millenary ceramic history, 30 minutes from the marvellous Byzantine ruins of Ravenna, from Bologna, from the sea and 2 hours from Florence, Monica Zauli, daughter of art, architect and artist, will introduce participants to the "paradise" of ceramics, in a series of Ceramic Courses in which she will tell the history of the place and what she learnt from her father Carlo Zauli both on materials and on tools and techniques. Monica will follow the work with clay through to firing, giving advice, offering alternatives and guaranteeing a unique and extraordinary experience in these three types of workshops:

INFOS

Faenza

It is a special city where a strong sense of the 'spirit of place' - given by centuries of ceramic tradition - and current synergies between contemporary art and new technologies are combined thanks to the presence of numerous ceramic workshops, artists' studios, design schools and advanced research centres.

Museo Carlo Zauli

Located in Faenza's historic centre, it occupies the premises that were the studio of Carlo Zauli, one of the most representative sculptors of the 20th century, from 1949. It houses the Carlo Zauli collection with works from the 1950s to the 1980s and a selection of contemporary art works by numerous Italian and international artists. It recounts the vitality and potential of ceramics with contemporary tools and is a point of reference in the production and dissemination of art thanks to artist residencies, didactic itineraries, cycles of conferences, and musical events.

Workshops

The courses take place in the historical workshops inside the museum where the evocative atmosphere of the place and the stratification of work with ceramics that has been carried out without interruption for almost a century is clearly perceptible. The blackened walls of the kiln room from thousands of firings, the large moulding room with its original wooden counters and clay panels give the experience a unique character where involvement is inevitable. Each participant will be provided with a personal workstation on large communal tables and a tool kit comprising clay loaves, sticks, spatulas and all that will be necessary for the creation of their own object, which can be taken home at the end of the course.

Monica Zauli

She graduated in architecture from the University of Florence, is a member of the Luxembourg Institute of Architects and works in Italy, France, Japan and Luxembourg. Her projects range between architecture, art and nature. She designs interventions for a different reinterpretation of space, the home and the garden. She uses various media such as drawing, engraving and ceramics. She follows artistic projects in collaboration with museums and galleries. She is vice-president of the Carlo Zauli Museum in Faenza.

Courses can be conducted in either English or French at no additional cost. A Certificate of Participation will be issued at the end of the course.
